We had a fun Carnival-themed birthday party for her. She is such a fun girl! She loves to draw and paint and will do it for hours and hours if she could! She is a great big sister to Cannon. I can't imagine our life without her! Love her to pieces!

We took our Hunter, Jenna and Ember skiing for the first time last week! They were all pretty nervous but they all did great! It was especially fun to see Hunters progression. He really started to get the hang of it towards the end. It was a perfect day for it--the kids had to keep pulling off layers because they were getting too warm.

Hunter had his first pine-wood derby race tonight. No trophies, but still lots of fun! We made some mental notes on what we would do differently for next years car.

Cannon is officially in Nursery! Wow, I feel like I can actually go to church and be spiritually fed! Thank you Nursery teachers! On a side note, Cannon's favorite things that he does now are: walking around in daddy's shoes (or mommy's or anyones!), bringing me his shoes so we can go outside, climbing--on EVERYTHING!!, reading books, eating, playing outside, and playing hide-and-seek! So fun and adorable. I truly love this stage of his life!amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-73474542631324073142010-03-10T09:46:00.000-08:002010-03-10T10:26:32.388-08:00"Not my will, but Thine be done"Good news is much more exciting to spread than bad, but nonetheless, I feel the need to share this news as well. On Monday morning I went in for my bloodwork to find out if the pregnancy took, and later that day recieved a call that it was negative. The sweet innocent embryo didn't make it this time. Yes, I was so dissappointed. Even though there was at best a 50% chance of it working, I still kept thinking that it would work and make my uterus its home for 9 months. I am, after all, so fertile. Christina is young with healthy eggs. But, I am learning that it wasn't time. I know that God, the Great Creator of all, is in charge and knows whats best. I may never find out why it didn't work this time, but I do have faith that it will happen when its supposed to. Christina and Scott are of course saddened deeply by this news, but they too, have great faith and trust in the Lord. They are strong. They want this to happen more than I do. They will have their sweet little baby one day--hopefully sooner than later. We will try again soon. They were able to freeze 4 of Christina's eggs and so she won't have to go through the retrieval process again. I am off meds now, but will begin again in a few weeks to get my body prepared for try #2!

Before we recieved this news, in every prayer said by Jenna she prayed for the baby in my tummy to be able to grow and be healthy. When I shared the news with my kids that the baby didn't make it this time, they too were sad, but quickly drew the conclusion that it wasn't that baby's turn to come to earth. They have such great faith. I love their sweet spirits so much! I learn so much from them! Thank you sweet children for continually teaching your mommy so much about life and love and faith. I love you all. Life is good. I will always trust in the Lord in all things.amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-78215790044788507572010-02-23T21:15:00.000-08:002010-02-24T12:09:07.667-08:00A successful transfer! So today was the day! I am in Chicago right now with Christina. This morning I had the embryo transfer. And it was a success! The Dr. said that the embryo looked strong and healthy. It was so amazing to be able to watch the whole process! They had a large TV on the wall and magnified the embryo 400x. Then, via ultra sound, we literally watched them suck the tiny embryo up and insert it right into my uterus. Christina said she got all teary-eyed watching her little baby go inside of me. It truly is a miraculous process! I am now on bed rest for a couple days. Christina is taking such great care of me. She really is so amazing! I am so happy to be doing this for them. We will know by next Friday if it actually takes (we are all praying, of course, that it does!) My sweet in-laws are in town tending the children all week. I really feel like they couldn't be in better hands. I do miss them all and Gabe so much! I come back home on Saturday morning. I am filled with all kinds of emotions right now-- happy, grateful, excited, hopeful to name a few. Thank you all for your prayers, love, and concern for us in this exciting journey we are embarking.amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-32138922335879397122010-01-11T20:44:00.001-08:002010-01-15T11:27:03.448-08:00Time to share the news...I feel that it is time to share our news....(sorry, its pretty lengthy)

It all started back in April, when I was in Arizona visiting with my sister-in-law and we started talking about our pregnancies and deliveries and how natural and easy they are for us. Then we jokingly said that we have it so good, we could have someone else's baby for them. I didn't give it any more thought then, but after I returned home, the idea of surrogacy kept coming back to my mind. So I hopped online and began some research. I continued for sometime reading all I could about the world of surrogacy. I found that 'gestational surrogacy' or surrogacy using one couple's egg and sperm to create their own biological baby was made legal in Utah just a few years ago. I realized that the more I looked into this, the more excited I became about being able to do this for someone.
My next big question was "what is the church's stand?" So I went and met with my bishop about me wanting to be a surrogate. He had never been asked this question, but did his "homework," visited with the stake president, and even church headquarters. He got back with me and gave me his 100% approval and support and thinks that its a great thing I will be doing. All along the way, I have been very prayerful about this and have felt strongly to keep moving forward with it. I felt like I could really be a blessing in some couple's lives.
The agency I chose to go with is called CSP (www.creatingfamilies.com). They are wonderful! They completely screen both couples involved and don't cut any corners (which in some ways, seems to take forever, but in the end its a very good thing!) It wasn't until November that Gabe and I were presented with a "potential match". We read and re-read their profile and prayed to know if this was the couple I was to help. We both recieved a very strong affirmative impression. Soon after, we were able to visit with them over the phone. It was so great talking to them! We continued to email and call each other on a regular basis and have really enjoyed getting to know them. Their names are Scott and Christina and they live out in Wisconsin. They are devoted to one another and devoted to the Lord and we are so blessed to call them our friends. Thats why when we were finally able to meet them (face-to-face), that we truly felt like we already knew them! Just last week, Gabe and I took a trip out there to meet them! It was so fun to put a face to the name (and voice!). They took us out to eat a few times, we played games and just visited! They are so awesome! While we were out there, I met with the Dr. who will be doing the embryo transfer. We are set to have the transfer take place the end of next month! I am so excited! Scott and Christina are so very grateful for this opportunity! They have 20 nieces and nephews and so badly want a child of their own! I am truly SO happy to be their surrogate mom! Gabe is so supportive ---I could not (and would not) do this without his 100% support! We have told Hunter and Jenna about it and they are absolutley great with it. I really wanted them to understand that we are not giving away one of their siblings. We explained that our friend Christina has a broken tummy and can't carry her own baby, so mommy's going to carry their baby in my tummy and then when it time for the baby to come, we give them their baby. I have had people ask me if it will be so hard to give away the baby and my answer is 'no'! I am going into this whole situation with the sole purpose of giving a couple something they cannot give themselves and am thrilled to be able to do this. I am not by any means an expert in this field but if you have questions for me about this I'd be happy to do my best to answer. Sorry for the long post, but that's what's new in my world and I thought it was time to share.
amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-29827873891589191382009-12-03T11:08:00.000-08:002009-12-03T20:32:41.601-08:00Spotlighting HunterA lot has happened in Hunters life since the end of October..... He is such a good helper to me and is a fantastic big brother to all his siblings. He and Jenna are the bestest friends and are so fun (and funny) together! He loves reading, piano, basketball, scouts, wresting with his dad, anything related to life-science, playing games and watching movies as a family. He really wants a bearded dragon that he's been saving up for for a long time! For example...For Gabe's and my date on Friday night, we went over to Scera Park and played frisbee and Kubb! It was honestly one of the best dates we've had in a very long time! Not only did we have that time to just visit and laugh, but it didn't cost us one cent! And to top it off the Scera outdoor theater that night was Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band (one of my faves!) Let me share some more examples of my favorite simple things...my childrens kisses, taking family walks, swinging, blowing bubbles, smelling flowers, painted toenails, holding hands, chocolate, playing games with Gabe, laughter, rain, a good nights sleep (not simple but VERY nice!), Cannon's smile, singing, making cupcakes with Ember and my list could go on and on. Its taking me a while but I am learning to not crowd and complicate my life, but rather step back, watch, listen, not get all worked up over "spilled milk" and to just keep it simple!amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-1811856886169462562009-08-28T06:18:00.000-07:002009-08-28T10:59:37.547-07:00Milestones...Milestone #1---Hunter started 2nd grade and Jenna started 1st grade last week! Its crazy that Jenna is gone all day too now. What a long day for such a little girl! Hunter and Jenna eat lunch together every day. It makes me so happy that Hunter takes good care of his sister while they are away. I am really enjoying the time I have to spend with Cannon and Ember. They are so much FUN!

Milestone #2---Cannon is officially a walker! Sooooo Fun! Its so cute to see him walk. He's been taking steps for a couple weeks now, but now he prefers walking to crawing! They grow up wayyyyyy too fast!

Milestone #3---Gabe is back in school too! He started at UVU on Wednesday. I am so happy for him.
The other photo I posted is of Gabe taking the kids to their beds last night. They always have so much fun with him. It feels good to blog again. I will do better at posting more regularly! :)

amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-74083213045277110282009-05-19T20:47:00.000-07:002009-05-21T07:06:16.486-07:00Spotlighting Ember!Ember and I have a game we play often. Its the "what was your favorite part of the day?" game. She normally initiates this game. So she asked me today and I told her that my favorite part was taking her to the pet store. She then replies, "oh mom, thanks. You're the best mom ever!" now, mind you, she's not telling me thank you because I took her to the pet store, but because I told her that doing something with HER was my favorite part. She sure knows how to boost my ego. She sure puts a smile (or laugh) on my face too! A little bit ago, we had our lawn aerated. She sees all these little dirt clumps on our grass and starts to "fix" it by putting the clumps back in the wholes! (I guess that pretty much defeats the purpose of the aeration!) Her favorite things in the whole world are making Cannon laugh, CANDY, riding her tricycle, playing little games on the computer, and making cookies with me. We make cookies about once a week and she's getting to be quite the chef! She really loves "our time" (she actually calls it "me and us" time)---when Jenna and Hunter are in school and Cannon is napping. She loves to create things and is so much fun! I love you Ember!

My beautiful mommy!

(just thought i'd stick this one in from my last post.)

amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-8826999334459427622009-04-27T20:53:00.000-07:002009-04-27T21:10:00.322-07:00The latest Chariton happeningsHere's the latest in the Chariton home... 2 weeks ago, I packed up me and my four little ones in the car and drove to Phoenix to visit my sister-in-law, Jessica. The drive went surprisingly well (thanks to Honda for putting a DVD player in!) We only stopped ONE time the whole way down! It truly was a miracle. On Thursday (I had been there 4 days), Gabe flies in and completely surprises me. I had NO clue he was coming. He told me there was no way he could. It was so fun having him out there. We went to a way fun childrens museum, hung out at Jess' pool, had a fun birthday party for Jarom, went on some fun walks, enjoyed the sunshine and then packed up in the car again for our trip home. This time, thankfully, Gabe was able to drive and so I could tend to the kids. Thanks hun for the fun surprise!
What else? Oh yes... My mom just graduated from BYU! It was neat to see her walk and get her diploma. She has worked so hard and graduated with honors! Way to go mom!
The latest news, which I have mixed feelings about, is that Cannon is totally crawling now!!! Time to put the gate up on the stairs! Its so cute to see him crawl to something he wants. He's getting big way too fast!!! He is such a good baby. I'll post pics of the crawler and other happenings next time.amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-11364153859748037332009-04-09T21:07:00.000-07:002009-04-09T21:30:35.693-07:00Videos of my kiddos!

I thought these were so fun! The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For YOU! I saw this on a blog and I thought, "humm, in my attempt at being a better person, why not do a little service for friends and loved ones." This is going to be fun and I can't wait to start some new projects. It must be something to do with spring because once the sun comes out I all of the sudden get this huge urge to take on tons of new projects. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations: 1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make! 2. What I create will be just for you. 3. It'll be done this year. Hopefully sooner than later. 4. You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be sewn, painted, written, scrapbooky, or be something totally random that I come up with on a whim. I may even bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure! 5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re-post this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. Let's spread some love! So, the first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they are doing it too win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me! (I know...that could either be cool or scary) Who knows! :)Be sure to post pictures of what you won when you recieve it! :) I thought this sounded like a pretty neat idea!amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-83412299257825161822009-03-10T19:54:00.000-07:002009-03-10T20:18:32.661-07:00AccomplishmentsToday I realized that its much better to focus on the things I can do and have done rather than the opposite. For example today I made mac'n'cheese start to finish while nursing Cannon! It might not be as grand as writing a novel, but for me, it was something grand at the moment! As for Gabe---he has literally beat me at Chinese Checkers in at least the last twenty games that we've played! (why do I even bother anymore?) And Hunter made 3 baskets (standard height) today at ball practice! I was so proud of him! He has also moved on to his own room in the basement now. Jenna is now the proud rider of a two wheeler. She has been practicing the last little bit and is now getting it. And for Ember she can reach the pedals on her new tricycle and is really cruising! She also sings "You Are My Sunshine" adorably!! Cannon has recently discovered the joy of finding his feet and realizes that they are connected to him so he can play with them anytime he wants now---so cute!!! He also is working on re-learning the amazing accomplishment of sleeping through the night!!! These may not all be great achievements for everyone, but its sure fun to see how we all grow and progress and focus on the things we can do!amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-40241471107094168242009-02-25T20:44:00.000-08:002009-02-25T21:10:23.977-08:00"I love you" just becauseI've realized lately that my little kids are growing too fast--but this has also helped me remember how precious this time with them is. Hunter is reading The Book of Mormon every night before bed (thanks to Primary) and he's understanding it! He is such a good brother to his younger siblings. Jenna watches EVERYTHING I do and mimics me. This helps me take a good look at myself as I consider who I see her as and who I see her becoming. I did have a sad realization the other day. Hunter and Jenna were playing play-doh at the table and I looked at them and said "I love you" and Jenna looks up and says "where are you going?" to which I responded, "Nowhere. Can't a mom tell her kids she loves them just because, not only when she's leaving the house?" I guess I could do a better job at telling them I love them more!
Ember will be three on Sunday. She is a delight. She'd sit by my side and have me read her books all day if I could. She also loves to bake cookies with me. Cannon is 5 months old and is so well natured. He forgot how to sleep throught the night however! I've just started him on a few solids and he's loving that. Gabe is BUSY with work and it's going really well for him. He's just getting ready to kick off for the summer. As for me, I'm good. I've been tired lately, probably due to Cannon's sleepless nights. I did get out last night though. At dinner last night, Gabe suggested that I take some time just for me. I happily took the opportunity and headed to the mall. :) I left around 7:30 and when I came back about two hours later, Gabe had all the kids sound asleep--including Cannon! And I came back with a few fantastic bargains and a big smile!
Thanks Gabe.amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-8808853527771303212009-01-29T20:37:00.000-08:002009-01-29T21:44:37.334-08:00I fall down but I get up again! It has been quite an adventure since my last post. Aside from the usual holiday scene, I got my cast off (YEA!!!), we drove off a cliff on Christmas night and totalled our car (not good!), turned another year older, had a case of shingles, took a nasty fall down the stairs holding Cannon, turned my hair brown and cut bangs, and I think that pretty much sums up most of my life lately. I have recooperated well and things are going rather swimmingly at the moment. I really have nothing to complain about. My kids are awesome. Cannon is growing sooooo fast! I'll post some pics of the new me later.

My little munchkins in the morning

Cannon and his cousin Kate

amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-81178210195538620242009-01-20T20:48:00.000-08:002009-01-20T21:40:21.261-08:00Blogging is not just for Moms!

I have decided that since it's the Chariton Family Blog, I should give a little input every now and then. Amy and I are a little worried about Hunter. We have tried to be good parents. We taught him the BYU fight song at age three. I took him to his first game when he was four. We practically live in the shadow of Levell Edwards Stadium. In spite of our best efforts, it looks as though we might lose him. When our friends invited him to go to the U of U open house to meet the players, we thought it would be harmless. Sure they won the Sugar Bowl. So what if they are the #2 team in whole nation. O.K. they did beat the Y soundly this year. But I never dreamed a little afternoon surrounded by a little Utah Red could do SO MUCH DAMAGE! The Kyle Wittingham autographed ball sits right in front of his bed like an idol to some pagan god! His walls are covered with posters filled with obscene sayings like GO UTAH and other unmentionables! We have tried to be firm. We have made it clear that there will be NO Utah paraphernalia outside of his room or it will be confiscated! He almost broke his mother's heart when he told us that when BYU plays Utah next year he'll be cheering for both teams. The horror! We know that he has his agency, we can't force him to do what is right. We can only hope and pray that with a few games at Levell Edwards, our new subscription to the Mountain Sports Network, and a crushing victory over Utah, Hunter will be bleeding blue next year!

amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-3093526478576803152008-11-18T21:26:00.000-08:002008-11-18T21:56:21.227-08:00skating mishapI was just trying to be a good mom, and take Hunter roller skating last night!! We had just gotten on the rink (this was Hunter's first time skating) and so Hunter was holding on tightly to my hand. So when he fell, I went down with him. I knew right away that I had hurt my wrist, I just wasn't sure exactly until about an hour later, the E.R. doc informed me my wrist is broken. I couldn't believe it! They splinted me all up, gave me some nice meds, and sent me home. Feeding time with Cannon and changing his diapers (and typing--one handed!) are whole new experiences! Ember helped me change him this morning, bless her heart! Luckily, Gabe's schedule is flexible and he has been home most of the day to help me! My Relief Society President and my mom both brought in dinners tonight. So thoughtful! I told Hunter I'd take him skating another time--he insisted that he wants his dad to take him instead--fine with me!amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-42973279369046591152008-11-13T21:25:00.000-08:002008-11-18T16:33:17.015-08:00Halloween, Cannon's Blessing and Bugs
Life has been busy, but really fun. Gabe's mom and sister Ari came and spent a week with us before Cannon's blessing. Then his dad came for that weekend. Then his other sister Jessica suprised us and came up from Phoenix. It was great having them all here. Hunter turned seven on the 30th and we went to Hee Haw Farms to celebrate. The next day was Halloween. We had fun trunk-or-treating with Danielle and Hillary and their kids. On Sunday the 2nd, we had 50 people (25 of which were kids under age 7!!!) at our house for a luncheon prior to Cannon's blessing. It was......exciting! It was so thoughtful of everyone who traveled to be here. We love and appreciate you. It was a wonderful day. As nice as it was to have guests and visitors, it was sure nice to get my house back and into the usual swing of things once again.

So two quick funny bug stories...
There's a spider in our kitchen. I ask Hunter to kill it. He says he wants to save it and let it go free outside. Gabe interjects and says " Okay, if your little spider wants to go outside we'll give him a chance. Open the door and I'll count to 10. 1...2....3..." So Hunter opens the door and says, "Dad!! He doesn't understand!! He doesn't even know where the door is!" Gabe grabs a tissue and kills the spider. Hunter is devastated and says, " Dad, you killed the spider!" to which Gabe replies, "no the tissue did."

Ember got a little bug catcher thing in her Sonic Kids meal. We get home and she wants to go find some bugs to put in it. I tell her, "Ember, its too cold outside for bugs" (meaning there are none out there). She replies, "its okay mom, I have a coat on." Gabe says, " I know you do sweetie, but the bugs don't!" My witty husband! Ember went searching anyway. I know its a long post, but now I'm caught up! Phew!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268382222823256658" style="DISPLAY: block; We had a blast and afterwards we decided we want to host our own sometime. More than anything, it was just nice getting out together and doing something new! I had to laugh, and then I responded, "why yes, yes, he is." Interesting how observant children are. Then he says, "mom, I'm just going to call Cannon 'Bat' now, because bats are nocturnal too." Funny kid! I guess I never realized that babies could be called nocturnal!

My thoughts on Halloween costumes for kids (at least for mine anyway): I'm learning that they change their minds every day on what they want to be, so I'm procrastinating getting their costumes until right before Halloween on purpose. amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3115311554430785658.post-46517778400876211622008-10-16T19:03:00.000-07:002008-10-20T20:42:57.272-07:00Starring CANNON

Thanks to the help of my sweet sister Savannah, I have entered the blog world! I figured that it was a great time to start a blog because I have new baby to show off. George "Cannon" was born on the 21st of last month. Crazy how fast time flies after they're born---Say, how come the last days and weeks of pregnancy don't go that fast??? Cannon is doing great and growing so fast. He decided to come 6 days early. We got out of church at 5:00 and at 5:30 we went to our neighbors house for dinner and at 6:00 while we were eating, my water broke (somewhat embarassing) and my contractions started. We got to the hospital by 7:00 and Cannon was born at 8:01. It was truly incredible. We are adjusting well to four kids, although someone forgot to give Cannon the memo to sleep at night, but I'm sure he'll figure it out eventually. Now that I'm officially bloggified, I hope to be in the loop a little more. But for now, Cannon is sleeping so I guess I should be too!
amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00616230238870260263noreply@blogger.com7
